More Information Needed on Charter Schools

For anyone who is familiar with the charter school systems, I would like some advice.

I have a great idea for a charter school, and have decided to apply to have one opened in Atlanta Public Schools. I have researched the application process, and everything that I've read makes opening a charter school sound like a breeze.

Unfortunately, that's not the case. The application is very lengthy, and looks like it's written in a foreign language. I'm not sure whether I need to hire a lawyer, financial advisor, or both. Maybe there is a course that I can take that explains everything? Even after the application is completed, it's not like anyone will then just hand you a school building. Most charter schools are occupying the extra space in a different building. There is also the need of community support from business and community members.

Is anyone familiar with this process and able to give advice? I would like to know where to get more information on how to complete the application, and how to get the word out for support from the community.

  1. Really do your homework. In my experience, you need to make sure you have the community and business support. You will also need additional funding to run your school.
